We sent portable audio recorders to participants in Nigeria, Brazil, Canada, US, and UK, conducted interviews via Zoom, and enlisted some of our favorite editorial and children’s book illustrators to come up with concept art for each story.
The limitations of being house-bound turned into incredible creative inspiration, as the expressive visual language of animation allowed us to go beyond the literal and into the subjective experience of our participants in a way documentary can rarely accomplish.
Beyond just telling great stories, it was important that each participant feel their own hometowns and cultures represented in the illustration, sound, and music. What resulted is one of the most exciting projects I’ve ever been a part of.
